Feeling stiff, stale, or sad about writing? Let’s work together so you can start feeling a little nicer about this whole writing thing. I demystify the scary bits by emphasizing play and risk, provide prompts designed to playfully unlock the weirder and wilder parts of you, and provide lots of opportunities to share and process your work with others.

While very much inspired by both, Rigmarole is neither therapy nor a “how to” class on writing - it’s a place to play, learn from peers and share feelings, thoughts and projects in a low-judgment, high-encouragement setting.

I believe you are the expert in your creative process, and my job is to remind you.

We meet in small pods for about 1.5 -2 hours per week. I ask for a minimum commitment of a month, but most folks stick around for a long time. You don’t need a big project or any experience at all. The only requirement is a willingness to be kind to other creative explorers and to make a total fool of yourself!

This year will feature new prompts and themes along with some of your old favourites!

To join Rigmarole at any point in the year, please email echolaliawriting@gmail.com. Classes fill fast, so act now! I’ll contact you with available time slots and groups!

Here’s what folks have said about Rigmarole…

Rigmarole has been a highlight of my week for months now. It’s been an engaging way for me to hold myself accountable for my writing, and to find inspiration in other writers’ work. I love the energy, the positive and interesting feedback, and all the juicy creative discussions. Feeling heaps and bounds more confident in my writing, and sharing my work, in a few short months!
— Amanda McMillan
I found Daccia’s classes during the pandemic when I was in deep need of a regular creative outlet. Her classes have provided me with a safe space to write, explore, and share with others while receiving endless encouragement and support. It’s there to help you accomplish your goals, whether it’s just to have fun or to write something long-term!
— Sherry Li
I began taking weekly Rigmarole writing classes soon after the pandemic began and I feel so thankful to have found this class. Daccia is so very special and knows how to create a vibrant and safe environment to explore the many facets of writing and creation all while building an amazing community along the way. Daccia finds the right balance of structure and feedback while also creating space for artistic support, discussion, and a whole lot of laughs. I have finally found my artistic voice through Daccia’s weekly writing classes and have met some lifelong pals along the way
— Allie Shapiro
Rigamarole has been integral to my writing and general art practice. The classes help me move through creative blocks, develop ideas, and get caught up in the pleasure of writing again. I’ve connected with peers, leading to collaborative projects resulting in one publication that stemmed directly from these classes. Daccia’s unique skill in uncovering the nervous system in every piece of writing, and her joyeuse celebration of art as a whole, and of each of us as creators, is inspiring and supported me in becoming a better consumer of writing. Daccia is also trauma-informed. She knows how to get you out of freeze and into making things, which is actually critical in the arts right now.
— Chandler McMurray-Ives
As someone relatively new to personal and creative writing, it was quite a leap out of my comfort zone to join Rigmarole. It quickly became my happy place, as the feedback and camaraderie is incredibly fulfilling! I am loving exploring all kinds of new territory and being inspired by others at Riggy!
— Karl Stahl
The solitary nature of writing is for me as much a drawback as a source of comfort. Easy to get lost up there in your head. I’ve found Daccia’s sessions very grounding, and her analysis and encouragement very valuable. Also, the value of being in the presence of other passionate and supportive folks in the class cannot be overstated.
— Ryan Hughes
Daccia is a lovely guide who knows how to celebrate everyone’s unique voice. She is a constant and consistent cheerleader and had made me feel like a treasure over and over again. I feel deeply indebted for having found Rigmarolers and for it in-turn to allow me to find my writers voice.
— Tiffany Burtch
If you want to start writing for an audience, to see how it feels, this is a good place to be. Your co-writers become a part of your extended community, and along with Daccia, are there to support you as you find your style and voice and learn how to listen to others.
— Liz Gundersen
While stuck attempting to write a major project, I lost confidence due to a lack of direction and deadlines. Daccia’s Rigmarole course provided a comfortable space to talk through my intentions, ideas, and process without judgment, with a weekly deadline to keep me motivated. I’d describe the experience as nothing short of rehabilitating.
— Caleb Caswell
I joined the Rigmarole online classes in the Spring of 2020 and haven’t stopped in three years. These sessions are so much more than just writing exercises; they are a space for growth, for deep thought, for expansion and for fulfilling exchange. Daccia is an extraordinary reader, listener and facilitator whose empathetic and wise approach to creation is groundbreaking and lifesaving.
— Stephanie Fromentin
Taking this creative writing class has, without a doubt, changed my life! It has opened up a new creative outlet and steered me to contemplate the world, my current relationships, my history, and the writing process. I’ve been part of this online class since 2020, and I look forward to the weekly Zoom meeting - carving out time to write. Daccia is an excellent teacher/mentor, giving specific and thoughtful responses to each participant.
